During a stay in England in 2001 I met the dark yellow dog, FTCh Talsbrook Rhum of Bolton Abbey at John and Nina Halsted’s Brocklebank Kennels. Rhum came out of his kennel straight up to us strangers, wagging his tail, seemingly happy to see people; there was no sign of any shyness about him. What impressed me most was the way in which he dealt with the puppies, his offspring, that were running around. He sniffed at them and when they became too boisterous he simply walked away. Rhum left the impression of a dog that was of exactly the temperament I would be looking for: bold, outgoing, and simply “cool”. He wasn’t used very often at stud because he belonged to the Duchess of Devonshire (then the Marchioness of Hartington), who is very particular when it comes to using her dogs at stud.

When I saw Talbrook Rhum’s son «Josh» at the Batmoor’s Kennels in 2007 and discovered the same traits of character as before in his sire, I knew that I would use him as a stud dog. «Josh» is a kind, friendly and fine dog, full of the «Will to please». Out working he shows just the qualities I like so much: «hunting ability», «style», «pace» and «tail action» of course!

As Crest is tested prcd-PRA carrier I am forced to use a dog tested „clear“, which is luckily the case with «Josh». Doubling up on Aughacasla Sam (further back in the pedigree) I hope to strengthen the qualities so much sought after in field trial dogs.
